Facility will turn curbside organic waste into gas and fertilizer.
A facility to oversee conversion of York Region’s curbside green bin waste to fertilizer and renewable natural gas will start rising north of Newmarket this fall.
Convertus Group, a Canadian company, recently announced it had received all necessary permits and approvals for its York biofuel plant, “marking a major step forward for one of Canada’s most exciting green energy projects,” according to a media release.
The building and its anaerobic digestion tanks, which will be next to the region’s materials recovery plant on Garfield Wright Boulevard in East Gwillimbury, is expected to start operating in 2027.
